Observation notes: "Puddling" black swallowtail taking nutrients from moist rocks and water at the headwall spring in Soledad Canyon. Although the day was hot, sunny, and breezy, the middle afternoon sunshine was filtered by tree leaves and light wind gusted resulting in cooler temperature at the headwall. Two droplets not present in image 3563 (2) may have been secreted by this butterfly as seen in images 3570 (2) and 3571 (2).
