Coordinator notes: I'll accept this sighting, although A. vanillae is very (repeat, very) rare this far north, common though it may be in the south. But there are historical sightings in Massachussetts and Connecticut, although I've never seen one there. Given warming temperatures anything is possible. It's unclear to me what the caterpillar host plant would be this far north, since A. vanillae instars typically feed on passion-vine. I tend to doubt that this sp. has established residency in Massachussets. Anyway, very interesting sighting and thanks for submitting it. JRains
