Observation notes: Very smoky from fires in the area, hot sunny day (86 degrees F), butterfly was feeding on Rubber Rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus).

Coordinator notes: Recent genomic work reveals Coenonympha tullia is only in Alaska and adjoining Canada in North America in addition to Europe. The name that seems best now is Coenonympha california with yours in the ampelos group.-Ken Davenport
