Observation notes: The butterfly was very friendly. It landed on several of my possessions on the picnic table, my sandwich, and my wrist and arm.

Coordinator notes: Yes, your suggested ID is correct...and yes, sometimes these are quite friendly as you experienced. Very nice close-up photo, a male. The females have almost no such bark-looking markings on the underside. This one will hibernate over the winter and come out next spring when it gets warm enough and the snow melts back in May-June.
