Everlasting Tebenna Moth
Tebenna gnaphaliella

Observation date: August 04, 2021
Submitted by: NYBennie
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This tiny moth was on Pearly Everlasting flowers. I'd estimate it was only about 3/8" long (it is pictured on a pearly everlasting flower which is quite tiny). I identified it using the Picture Insect app on my phone. I saw two of these and both had the wings in this same configuration. I haven't seen other photos of this moth that look exactly like my photo so I'm not positive of the ID. I'm not sure that I have yellow nutsedge (a host plant) in my garden or lawn. I do have a couple of Black-eyed Susan plants that flank the row of pearly everlastings. I read that this moth will be drawn to Black-eyed Susan flowers. The weather was in the low 70's and sunny.
