Euphilotes enoptes

Observation date: June 21, 2020

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Collected along Mendocino Pass Road. Likely thought it was an Acmon blue at the time but re-discovered it on the pinning board along with greenish blues and a gray marble collected in roughly the same location.

Coordinator notes: My opinion here is that this is a Dotted Blue (Euphilotes enoptes) but I do not know if this could not be something else. Euphilotes enoptes is the only blue in that genus recorded in that county BUT none who is qualified in Euphilotes that I know of has really worked that county in 40 years. So my identification here is provisional based on current knowledge. The date of your collection might indicate to be in the battoides or ancilla group. And since confirmation of ID would require genitalic exam or DNA sequencing, I can't say what is based on field marks.-Ken Davenport I personally have Euphilotes from Mt. Shasta having such testing. I am still waiting for the results.
