Banded sphinx
Eumorpha fasciatus

Observation notes: Found a half dozen, large caterpillars in my garden at our community’s community garden. They had completely defoliate a weed-like yellow flowering plant in an unused part of my garden. I generally get a different Sphinx moth hornworm in my garden (I think it is the 5 spotted) that is the tobacco/tomato hornworm. This one is the same general size but very different in coloration and when I keyed it out it keyed to the Banded Sphinx Moth and the closest record on your site is South Carolina. (I’m in Leland, NC).
