Observation notes: Sunning on rocks along West Prong of the Little River in the Tremont area. Plenty of heart-leaved aster grows along this creek, a possible host plant. I don't know if a call can be confidently made on this one. Some don't even consider this a separate species from Pearl Crescent.

Coordinator notes: I have found where I live in Kansas a few individuals resembling P. cocyta rather than P. tharos. I'm not sure myself I believe them to be a separate species or subspecies because of the intergrading of populations looking the same at same areas. Perhaps a "form" within the P. tharos species? But I will positively identify this as Phyciodes cocyta according to this sites recognition as such. It would be expected in TN BUT this would be a Tenneesee state record! Thanks!
