Cecropia silkmoth
Hyalophora cecropia

Observation date: March 15, 2020
Submitted by: dawnraines
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Recently eclosed and drying his wings. The antennae indicate this specimen is male. He is on the trunk of a dogwood tree. Edit: I found him on the dogwood tree. He was not kept inside that I know of, but I do know some of the neighborhood children have raised caterpillars in the past, so it is possible he was kept at room temperature through the winter.

Coordinator notes: This has been a warm winter but still, this an extremely early eclosure. Was he kept indoors all winter? It would be helpful if you could edit your submission to say whether or not he was at room temperature. SG and thanks for the info!
