Observation notes: This Monarch had just hatched and was on the butterfly bush drying its wings. We had an empty chrysalis yesterday and knew that one had flown, but this is the first eclosure that we have actually watched in our garden: a most exciting morning and a great reward for building the garden! He finally flew up into a nearby small tree and paused a bit, then flew up, up and away!
