Darling Underwing
Catocala cara

Observation date: September 13, 2019
Submitted by: Ed Harrison
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Temp hi 50s F. Moth’s longitudinal length ~35 to 40 mm. Found alive and resting on deck boards shortly after they were cleaned with a hose. House is sited in mixed woods with some trees overhanging the deck. Overall I believe it fits genus Calocala quite well. Based on the color of the hind wing and the dark-line markings on the fore wings, I think its species is concumbens, though I’m less confident of the species ID. Verification or correction welcomed.
