Titan sphinx
Aellopos titan

Observation date: August 02, 2019
Submitted by: zfinney
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Observed in a patch of Common Milkweed and Wild Bergamot. I'm not an expert on moths/butterflies, so at first I only thought it was either a hummingbird or sphinx moth, so I just took as many photos as I could. I knew that it wasn't a clearwing, and was lacking yellow like I'm used to seeing. This moth was about the size of a clearwing moth, but was much darker overall with a prominent thick white band. The wings were opaque and dark. When I got back to my desk to research what I had seen, Titan sphinx was what I landed on.
