Walnut sphinx
Amorpha juglandis

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: At black light. Found in the morning after all-night run.

Coordinator notes: This is an odd one in that the submitter saw a distinct single blue eyespot one each hindwing (personal comm.) yet to me the markings all say Amorpha juglandis. Another opinion would be apprieciated. SG This is definitely Amorpha juglandis and not P. excaecata. Aside from the wing markings, which may appear somewhat similar in this worn condition, the definitive difference is the scalloped forewing edges with fringe (outer margin) that would distinguish for excaecata and are almost perfectly smooth with no fringe present in A. juglandis, which this specimen clearly shows. -ER
