Observation notes: Green Cercropia caterpillar found last year 2018 late summer for the first time on grass. Cocoon found in Crimson King Maple Tree April 2019. Snipped branch off, stuck it in a flower pot. Observed cocoon daily, and saw newly hatched Cercropia moth Thursday May 30th. Cloudy day, extremely windy, 20 degrees C. As I neared the moth, it opened and closed it's wings. When left alone, wings were closed. Placed some maple leaves beside it. I know very little about butterflies and moths. Moth's body has a few slits in the skin with yellow showing through - hope this is normal. From Richmond (Ottawa) Ontario.
