Observation notes: The moth was slowly flapping it's wings holding on to a native Coontie frond in Lake City, Columbia County Florida. We watched it for several minutes, perhaps 15 and then left it to itself. I'm pretty sure it was a female as the wingspan appeared to be about 7 inches. I did move about slowly to a different frond and position. I don't think it was trying to lay eggs, I don't think Coontie, Zamia integrifolia, is a host plant. It was a fairly warm day with a light breeze, partly cloudy.
