Observation notes: Descending the western slope of Calavera Volcano in Carlsbad, CA. Spotted this Metalmark along the trail. It seemed relatively tranquil, changing position but not flying away as I moved closer with my phone camera. The day was filmy overcast, but reasonably balmy mid 60's. Moments earlier, spotted several Painted Ladies, a Cabbage White, and the season's first Giant Swallowtail hilltopping at the summit.
