Observation notes: Observed flying in a shopping center in southeastern Carlsbad. Appeared to be about Hummingbird sized and at first mistaken for an injured hummingbird, so I followed its flight to where it landed. After capturing this image, I gently slid my index finger under it. It allowed this move, but displayed pinkish orange under-wing with obvious eye-shaped markings. I transferred it to a high trunk of a nearby palm. I may have seen this or another individual the day before in the same area. The weather both days was clear and quite mild.
