Observation notes: Sunny, humid, 65 degrees. The butterfly was moving around in the sun, 3 to 5 feet above the ground, at the edge of the road, about 200 feet from a slow-moving creek. He finally lit on a milkweed pod. Nearby were sycamore, oak, maple, beech, white pine, wild cherry, sumac, dogwood, lespedeza, wingstem, autumn olive, rose mallow, joe pye weed, iron weed, milkweed, dogbane, senna, black-eyed susan, mixed grasses.
