Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Time: 12:30 p.m. Elevation: 8,178 ft. (lower montane). General Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy, with a few raindrops falling here and there. Moderately breezy (12-14 mph). Observation Notes: This extremely worn brown lycaenid was captured perching on an evergreen shrub near a fallen pine tree and a grove of Golden Banner. It was probably a male watching for females. The most plainly marked tiny brown butterfly in Larimer County is the Brown Elfin, so that's my best guess for ID.

Coordinator notes: Brown Elfins are in Larimer County but I identified this one as the Hoary Elfin despite its very worn condition because there is obviously a grayish patch at the edge of the hindwing I think you will also clearly see studying the picture - AND - there is no trace of rusty reddish color which most of the underside of the Brown Elfin has and would still be apparent in this worn condition.
