Sylvan Hairstreak
Satyrium sylvinus

Observation date: June 01, 2018
Submitted by: Lisahug
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: at least a dozen individuals hanging out at a cluster of flowering Buckeye trees near the Russian River. 84 deg. I originally saw these about 11:00am while teaching a birding class. I thought they were California Hairstreaks. After class, I returned and got photos, and went up into Mendocino County to see if I could find the same things on flowering Buckeye trees along the Russian River. Did not find Sylvan Hairstreaks, but 3 other kinds. There was also 1 green hairstreak on this Cloverdale Buckeye tree when i arrived, but it did not stick around for a photo.
