Observation notes: clearing in coastal riparian habitat. stinging nettle, nine bark and native blackberry. Formerly record 1155998 submitted with a photo of an upperwing view that might be a Green Comma (I've never knowingly seen a Green Comma)

Coordinator notes: Another possibility with that duskywing would be an Oreas Comma (Polygonia oreas). With Polygonia, getting photos of both upper and lower sides is important. Oreas tends to be very blackish below. Faunus (Green Commas) are very variable but usually have some green spotting. Both species tend to be very rare in California . All three of those species occur in your region.-Ken Davenport
