Observation notes: The sun had finally come out at mid-afternoon. Prior to that it had been rainy & overcast, & cool, in the 60's. I was taking photos of the nasturtiums by the veggie garden around dinner time, when I turned my head just the slightest & was greeted with this lovely lady. I'm not an expert, but I believe she is newly emerged from chrysalis, & was nearly finished drying her wings, when I discovered her. I thought at 1st that she was feeding on the blossoms, but that was not the case. I also realized that she had no fear of me, so I reached over & put my forefinger under her front legs to lift her closer. She never flinched or fluttered. She stayed with me for about 5 minutes before venturing off into her new world. I believe she is one of the super generation, the ones that will make the journey to Mexico, taking with her the imprinted code for next years generations to find their way back here. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe.......
