Observation notes: Observed large (female) Black Swallowtail flying around and feeding on one of the very few Purple Plume Thistles left still in bloom in open field in Lawrence, Kansas (in very close proximity to American Bumblebee, each oblivious to the other, as well as me taking photos of them). Fed on thistle with bumblebee for about 3-4 minutes, started to fly away (about 10'), then turned around to return to same bush but a different blossom. Put on quite "the show"! Weather: 68 degrees, 50% humidity, sunny day. Large variety of insects and butterflies about on this day. Size: Approx. 3.25" wingspan
