Crowned Slug Moth
Isa textula

Observation date: October 16, 2016

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Around 5:30 PM October 16, observed this bright green caterpillar, about 5/8 inch long, with filigree-like patterned perimeter on an exposed root where the fallen leaves were parted in the middle of Fox Hill Trail, about 1/8 mile south of the Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Gently poked it with a twig and it just hunkered down slightly, grasping the root more firmly. I didn't want to dislodge it or turn it over for fear of injuring it. I couldn't see its head clearly, so I wasn't even sure it was a caterpillar until I saw the photos on this site.
