Orange-barred Sulphur
Phoebis philea

Observation date: July 09, 2016
Submitted by: ndipaolo
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Realized today that a "cloudless sulphur" cat I've been raising is actually an Orange Barred, P. philea! But I've been caring for it for at least a week. Was too small to identify uniquely when I adopted it. (I always raise P. sennae and was assuming I had yet another one of those) Looks to be a new 5th instar now. I am in Bloomington, Indiana. Don't know if I will attempt to breed this one, considering any I find will probably be this one's siblings and if I wanted to see sibling unions' offspring I'd just visit Walmart...

Coordinator notes: Nice find. Phoebis philea is accidental in Indiana and usually doesn't appear until late summer.
Checklist region(s): United States, Indiana, Monroe County
