Observation notes: This individual was one of three on a pathway to a well-shaded overlook for the river. This and another were each about 3/4 inch long. The third was about double that length and slightly larger in circumference. nearest trees were pines and oaks. The savanna bordering the line of trees along the riverbank had mostly dry grass and thistles, with a few other plants still green despite drought conditions. Along the edge of the treeline were occasional blackberry thickets. The three caterpillars were all on the crushed gravel of the pathway. On other occasions, I have seen several caterpillars of one sort on a particular plant -- but not this time.
