Hubbard's Small Silkmoth
Sphingicampa hubbardi

Observation date: August 24, 2014
Submitted by: finatic
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Attracted to UV light
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: On the basis of range and the dark gray forewings, I believe this is S. hubbardi. Tuskes, Tuttle, and Collins text "The Wild Silkmoths of North America", 1996, state that H. heiligbrodti ranges in south and central TX with S. hubbardi ranging from w. TX to AZ. Specimens of S. heiligbodti I collected in Bexar Co, TX had much paler gray forewings than this sighting, which is consistent with what the referenced text states for that species. SAT
