Western Poplar Clearwing Moth
Paranthrene robiniae

Observation date: July 27, 2014
Submitted by: Nancy Hamlett
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This moth was spotted on a hot, partly cloudy afternoon on an Arroyo Willow (Salix lasiolepis) growing on the shore of a small artificial lake at the Claremont Colleges' Bernard Field Station. This appears to be a female that is ovipositing in the willow, which is a host plant for this species.
