Observation notes: The day began cloudy and cool, but in the afternoon, there were warm, sunny periods. The temperature rose to approximately 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Air was humid. The yellow flowering plants in the photo grew in scattered clumps in many places along the approximately 4 mile loop of pathway around the major portion of the wildlife refuge, but only in a couple locations did my daughter and I notice a caterpillar hatch at work on the plants.
