  Sighting 1412547

Observation date: August 21, 2025
Date notes: August 21 is when I discovered the chrysalis. On August 25 it was still a chrysalis. I didn't look again until September 1, when I discovered the butterfly had emerged in the meantime and was gone.

Observation notes: I was cutting off some vertical sucker branches from a holly tree. One branch had zoomed up, 10 to 15 feet at its tip. After removing the branch from the tree trunk I cut the thin branch into shorter pieces. That's when I noticed the chrysalis. After I took a picture of it, I placed the branch vertically into an azalea bush so the chrysalis is hanging vertically again, in a place where I can examine it every day. The location is close to the holly tree.
