Western Branded Skipper
Hesperia colorado

Observation date: August 13, 2021
Submitted by: twofried
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Ventral hindwing pattern and strong black border of white spots seem to fit this species the best, though its a bit early for its second flight and it's displaced further East than expected. Antennae also appear short. Upper spots on ventral hindwing do not overlap like in Green. Definitely not Taxiles, this time. Could be aberrant W Branded. No dorsal pic.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: good analysis, but this lies within the normal variation of Western Branded. this is the start of their flight and they should be routine in higher grasslands of Taos Co. Juba is possible, but will need upperside pix to be sure, considering what a big range extension it would be.
