Observation notes: This butterfly was visiting Purple Coneflower flowers (Echinacea purpurea). Purple Coneflowers seem to be a favorite of the nectar-loving butterflies that pass through the yard. A small portion of its left forewing is missing near the top. You can see the dark coloring on the upperside of the right forewing through the missing portion of the left forewing.
