Subfamily: Erebinae
Identification: Outer margins of gray forewing and hindwing scalloped. Many zigzag lines make it distinctive. Black streaks in male, absent in female.
Wing Span: 10-15 cm.
Life History:
Flight: September-November northward, and all months in southern Florida and southern Texas.
Caterpillar Hosts: Possibly legumes.
Adult Food:
Habitat:
Range: Tropical. Regularly present from Florida to Texas, straying northward rarely to Maine, southern Ontario, Michigan, and Missouri.
Conservation:
NCGR: G5 - Demonstrably secure globally, though it may be quite rare in parts of its range, especially at the periphery.
