Peachtree Borer Moth
Synanthedon exitiosa (Say, 1823)
Family: Sesiidae
Subfamily: Sesiinae
Identification: Body in male black with yellow collar, and yellow bands or streaks on thorax, abdomen, and legs. Wings transparent with black borders. Body bluish black in female, with red to orange abdominal crossband. Forewing entirely black.
Wing Span: 1.4-3.3 cm.
Life History: Larva bores into trunks of trees from 8 cm below soil to about 30 cm above surface. A major pest of peach trees.
Flight: May-September.
Caterpillar Hosts: Apricot, peach plums, and other Prunus species.
