St. Lawrence Tiger Moth
Platarctia parthenos (Harris, 1850)

Subfamily: Arctiinae
Identification: Forewing brown with large yellowish spots and bars that represent usual lines. Hindwing yellow with two black lines from base that merge into median spots; black pm. line a series of partially merged spots.
Wing Span: 5-6.5 cm.
Life History:
Flight: June-August.
Caterpillar Hosts: Alder, birches, lettuce, willows, and other plants.

Range: Labrador to mountains of western North Carolina, west across Canada, south to Michigan.
