Milkweed Tussock Moth or Milkweed Tiger Moth
Euchaetes egle (Drury, 1773)
Family: Erebidae
Subfamily: Arctiinae
Identification: Body and wings mouse gray, with collar, forecoxae, and abdomen yellow; rows of black spots on abdomen. Wings usually unmarked, but some individuals have very faint, darker postmedial line and reniform spot on forewing.
Wing Span: 3.2 - 4.3 cm
Life History:
Flight: 2 flights; September - May.
Caterpillar Hosts: Milkweeds.
Adult Food:
Habitat:
Range: Maine and southern Canada to Florida; west to Minnesota and Texas.
Conservation:
NCGR: G5 - Demonstrably secure globally, though it may be quite rare in parts of its range, especially at the periphery.
