Salt Marsh Moth or Acrea Moth
Estigmene acrea (Drury, 1773)

Subfamily: Arctiinae
Identification: Head and thorax are white. Abdomen orange-yellow with black spots in both sexes; tip of abdomen is white on females. Forewing white with variable black spots representing bits of usual lines; some have no spots. Hindwing dark orange-yellow in male, white in female, with 3-4 black blotches in both sexes.
Wing Span: 4.5 - 6.8 cm
Life History: Larvae (Salt Marsh Caterpillars) are pests on many plants.
Flight: 2 broods, May - August.
Caterpillar Hosts: Apple trees, cabbage, clover, corn, cotton, peas, potato, tobacco, and other plants.

NCGR: G5 - Demonstrably secure globally, though it may be quite rare in parts of its range, especially at the periphery.
