Red-Shouldered Ctenucha
Ctenucha rubroscapus (Ménétriés, 1857)

Subfamily: Arctiinae
Identification: Adult has a narrowly white tipped smoky black forewing and hindwing, red pink head and tegulae, and a glossy blue black abdomen. Larva is black narrowly marked with white and covered with tufts of moderately long gray tan hairlike setae that emanate from black verrucae. The head and prolegs are shiny golden brown to light brown.

Life History: Adults are diurnal and feed at flowers.
Flight: One during July.
Caterpillar Hosts: Grasses such as Dactylis or Elymus (Poaceae).
