Catocala neogama (J.E. Smith, 1797)
Family: Erebidae
Subfamily: Erebinae
Identification: Very similar to Catocala subnata, but usually smaller and darker gray with heavier markings. Hind tibia flattened, sparsely and unevenly spined; that of C. subnata cylindrical with dense, uniform covering of spines on outer surface.
Wing Span: 7-8.5 cm.
Life History:
Flight: June-October.
Caterpillar Hosts: Butternut, hickories, and walnuts.

Range: Maine and Quebec to northern Florida, west to South Dakota and Texas.
