Identification: Forewing mottled gray, white, and brown. Subreniform spot usually white, with pale bar passing through it. Vague blackish bar from base of forewing to outer margin (darkest below apex). Most of forewing dark brown to st. line in form "scintillans" Grote. Hindwing black with orange bands and fringe in both forms.
Wing Span: 5.5-7.2 cm.
Life History:
Flight: June-September.
