Apantesis phalerata (Harris, 1841)

Subfamily: Arctiinae
Identification: Wing pattern varies, especially on hindwing. Forewing mostly black, with cream-colored costal border and lines extending from base; less cream on female. In male and female specimens from far southern U.S. states, hindwing usually more yellowish than reddish with little or no black edging.
Wing Span: 3-4.2 cm.
Life History:
Flight: April-September.
Caterpillar Hosts: Clover, corn, dandelion, plantain, and other plants.
