Aholibah Underwing Moth
Catocala aholibah

Observation date: August 04, 2014
Submitted by: Barbara Robeson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Photographing birds in our backyard Danville, Contra Costa County, California. 3PM. Weather uncommonly humid with clouds/Monsoonal influence for several days. Had I not seen the moth fly onto the side of our large Ash tree, I would not have seen it at all - so well camouflaged. Fairly large moth, ca 1 1/2 inches top to bottom. Here is a link to my flickr page picture: https://www.flickr.com/photos/19469168@N02/14842068951/ Thank you so much for your assistance. This is a neat project and I will follow you and submit when possible to add to your citizen scientist data base.

Coordinator notes: It does have a wing shape like many Geometridae, but is actually a Noctuidae (or Erebidae in older texts).
