Observation notes: Lower eastern slopes of the Sandia Mountains at 8,300 feet elevation. Douglas-fir, true firs, a few ponderosa pine. Sunny and hot.

Coordinator notes: Hi Randy. This is a male Northwestern Fritillary (formerly called Atlantis). You can separate Northwestern from Aphrodite by the FW veins, which are heavily overscaled with black in Northwestern, but are much more delicately black in Aphrodite. First f the year or close to it. just started seeing them in Sangres in the past week. Sandias have ssp. dorothea. thanks for submitting! steve
