Submitted by: RecGirl
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Caterpillars have dense hair and two pairs of thick black lashes near the head and rear. There is a black strip of spots and near the head there are two brown/red spots. Also, on either side of the black stripe are silver/white stripes then the rest of the body is green/yellow. The nest is of paperlike material on the outside and sticky silk like material on the inside. This nest/colony of caterpillars was found on pine tree and many of the needles have been stripped/eaten (defoliated) by the caterpillars. Many were spotted in the area but were dispersed (only seen from the road so there it may be more densely populated deeper in the wilderness).
