Butterflies and Moths of North America

collecting and sharing data about Lepidoptera

Happy Pollinator Week: June 21-27, 2021! Butterflies and moths are pollinators of many flowering plants.

Did you know? The Hummingbird Clearwing (Hemaris thysbe) hovers in flight and uses its long tongue to sip nectar from flowers.

Observation notes: This moth was sitting motionless on the wall of the Nature House in Goldstream Park near Victoria BC. Its pattern - the break in the wide brown band and the "eye mark" below and outside the largest dark patch on each side - caught my eye. It's an interesting variation on the usual Erranis vanc. markings.
