Coordinator notes: This is the Eastern Buckmoth, Hemileuca maia, just after emergence from its pupa. If the submitter checked the moth a few hours after this photo was taken, it might have had all the fluid pumped from the body into the wings. This seems late for an emergence, even on the Gulf Coast, but I guess the warmer than average temperatures may have played a role.
