Desert Checkered-Skipper
Burnsius philetas

Observation date: November 20, 2013
Submitted by: lmreid71
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It was behaving differently from the Common Checkered-Skippers, closing it's wings as soon as it landed (which is why I have no dorsal shots), and it was drinking moisture from the sand at the edge of the pond. I also noticed the 2 dark dots with a clean area between the dots, leading me to believe it's a Desert Checkered-Skipper.
