Evergreen Bagworm Moth
Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis

Observation date: August 20, 2013
Submitted by: Sunb21
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Usually, the swallowtails lay eggs on the parsley, but yellow jackets always eat them. Also, the pupa seems to have used a dying evergreen shrub for its covering. There are a few things to consider: This is located in Nassau County, Long Island, NY. We have a problem with our evergreens dying. The reason is yet to be identified. I don't know if the caterpillars are harming the evergreens, or the dying evergreens are increasing the incidence if this species( whatever it is ).
