Tuliptree silkmoth
Callosamia angulifera

Observation date: June 01, 2013
Submitted by: Thrower
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: There are several large tuliptrees in the back yard. A tuliptree moth laid eggs on my shoestring and they hatched 8 days later. I raised them on tuliptree leaves and documented the changes over time. Moths emerged 60 days after the caterpillars hatched and based on the antennae, this specimen is male. It was possible to identify the sex as male from the pupa as well, which had prominent antenna structures on the surface.
