Observation notes: This moth (?) was on a large tree at a wilderness area called "The Pocket" located on Pigeon Mtn, in Walker County, northwest GA. It was about 5 feet above the ground on the tree trunk and did not move at all as we observed it. We were near the tree for at least 10 minutes. The photo was taken at about 4 p.m. in a shady area on a sunny and hot day in April. We were on a boardwalk over an area with numerous wildflowers and a stream. Plants included ferns, trailing Trillium, phlox, Virginia bluebell, and other wildflowers. The area is heavily wooded with hardwood trees.
